The Twitter app doesn’t allow you to download videos. If you come across some amazing videos and GIFs, you can use any of these methods to download Twitter videos and photos to your Photos Gallery on Android or iOS.

Online Twitter /X Video Downloader

If you only need to download Twitter videos occasionally, then a free online downloader may be a good choice. When you search it on Google, you can find a lot of them. You can simply pick one Twitter video Downloader

As you may know, Twitter saves GIFs as MP4, so you can see the same steps to download Twitter GIFs. Steps listed as below:

Step 1. Locate the Twitter video that you want to download. Click the Twitter Share button and select Copy Link to the video Tweet.

Step 2. Open your web browser and navigate to the Twitter Video Downloader website.

Step 3. Page the link you just copied and tap on the Download button.

Step 4. Then it will show you a few download options that allow you to select the video quality to download. Just tap on the corresponding download button you prefer.

Then you can save the video to your phone’s Gallery. If you are running iOS 13 or later versions, you can use Safari to download videos on iPhone or iPad. In Settings, you can select to save downloaded files on My iPhone or iCloud. If you want to save Twitter videos to Photos Library, you can open the Files app to do so.

If your iPhone is running iOS 12 or an older version, you can use the Documents app by Readdle to download files on iPhone

Twitter /X Downloader Shortcut for iOS

For iOS users, you don’t have to leave the Twitter app to download a video or GIF, because you can use a custom Shortcut, which is available in Share Sheet. The Shortcuts app is a built in app for iOS automation. You may have never used it, but you really should. Let me show you how to use it to download Twitter videos step by step.

Step 1. Open this link in Safari to get the Loader shortcut, which allows you to download videos from Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc.

If you have never added any shortcuts yet, you need to enable Allow Untrusted Shortcuts in Settings to import a shortcut.

Step 2. Within the Twitter app, tap on the Share button below the Twitter video that you want to download. Then select “Share via…”.

Step 3. Scroll down to select the Loader shortcut you just added.

Step 4. You can follow the instructions within the shortcut to download the video to your Photo Gallery.

When you import this shortcut, you can also configure the language. It is available in English Russian, Turkish, Espanyol, and traditional Chinese. While running the shortcut, you can select the quality or rip the audio from the Twitter video.

You can also copy the Tweet link and run the shortcut within the Shortcut app. If you like this method, you probably like to explore other useful shortcuts for iPhone or iPad.

If you need to download video or GIF from private or NSFW tweets, you can get another Twitter Downloader shortcut, HiRes Twitter. You should also install the free app, A-Shell, and Scriptable.

Twitter Downloader App for Android

Many Twitter downloader apps are available in the Play Store for Android users. While testing, I found some no longer worked. To save you time, you can use this one, Downloader for Twitter.

When you open this app, it will automatically paste the Twitter video link you copied and load the video. You just need to select the video frame rate to download the video directly. Additionally, you can also save the X /Twitter video as a GIF. When done, you can check all the downloaded videos in the Downloads section.

In the app Settings, you can enable Dark Mode, change the download location, or enable the option to download the video cover image. However, the app contains Ads. You can upgrade to the paid version to remove Ads.

Twitter Video Downloader Script  – Private Accounts

Previously, I wrote a post about using Tampermonkey scripts on Android or iOS. There is a Twitter Media Downloader userscript that adds a Download button below each tweet. You can tap on it to download Twitter videos and images.

This method is more complicated than others, but it allows you to download Twitter videos from private accounts. For iOS users, you need to get the Userscripts Safari extension, which only works for iOS 15. For Android users, I recommend Firefox Nightly.

Twitter Downloader App for iOS

Due to copyright infringement, most of the media downloader apps are removed from Appstore. Luckily, you can still use YSBrowser to download videos from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

It is a browser app with a media sniffer feature, so you can download almost any video that you can watch. Once you have the app installed, you can play the Twitter or X video in a floating window. There is a Download button which you can tap to download the Twitter video on iPhone.

Conclusion

With these 5 methods, you can easily download Twitter /X videos and images on your iPhone or Android phone. Personally, I prefer the Shortcuts method, since it is more like a system-level feature and you can make your own customizations. If you also like it, you should also check out my favorite shortcuts collection.
