For quick video editing, you can simply do it on your iPhone or iPad. In this article, I will show you 3 ways to add music to video on iPhone with free applications provided by Apple. You can choose music from your Music library or any audio file from the Files app.

Method 1: Add Music to Video with Siri Shortcuts

If you just want to add background music to a video without editing, you can use a shortcut I created to do it quickly. Shortcuts app is pre-installed on any device since iOS 13. If somehow you don’t see this app, you can free download it from AppStore.

I have made a Media Merger shortcut to combine video and audio automatically. For it to work offline, you should also install a free app, A-Shell or A-Shell Mini, from App Store.

With the Shortcuts app installed, you can click the button above to get the Media Merger shortcut. Then you can run this shortcut to select the music and video and the shortcut will do its job by combining the video and audio.

The output video will be saved to the Photos app. And of course, you can also save to Files app if you want.

Method 2: Add Audio to Video with iMovie

iMovie is a free application developed by Apple that allows you to edit videos on your iOS devices. It is quick and powerful as a free app. Once you get it installed, you can follow the steps below to add music to a video on your iPhone.

Step 1. Open the iMovie app and click the big plus (+) icon to create a new project, then select “Movie”.

Step 2. Select your video from Photos app and tap “Create Movie”.

Step 3. On the project-editing screen, tap the gear icon on the bottom right corner, then toggle on the option “Theme Music”. iMove comes with a few stock music that you can choose to add to the video.

Step 4. If you want to add your own audio to the video, just tap the plus (+) icon and select “Audio” > “My Music” to select a song from your Music Libray.

Step 5. Now you can export the video with the music background.

Method 3: Add Background Music to Video with Clips

Clips is a lightweight video editing app provided by Apple since iOS 11. You can find a lot of inbuilt soundtracks within the app, and you can also choose music from your Music App to the video clip that you want to edit.

Step 1. Within the Clips app, tap on the Music button at the top right of the screen.

Step 2. Select My Music and then you can choose your music from your iPhone Music Library. You can select the music you synced or purchased from iTunes, but not from Apple Music.

Step3. Tap the Play icon to preview the music. If that’s okay, tap “Done” to save the video.

Conclusion

That’s all the 3 ways to add music to video on iPhone. As you can see, you don’t need to pay for it or download apps from Appstore, because you can simply use the inbuilt app to get it done. All three methods work offline without an internet connection.
