In 2023, technical SEO performance still plays an important role. To make sure your site stays healthy in Google’s eyes, you need a professional site auditor tool to help you. In this article, I will show you the Website Auditor tool, which is part of the SEO PowerSuite package.
I will simply walk you through how this tool works and tell you some of the pros and cons. What’s more, I will compare it with another famous tool Screaming Frog, so you will know what to choose.
Overview of Website Auditor
As its name suggests, It’s an automated Website Auditor that crawls your entire website and tells you what you should do to optimize your website for SEO purposes. As your website content grows, there are most likely some crawl, index, canonical, and duplicate issues on your website that are not aware of.
Website Auditor will crawl your site page by page, list all the errors and warnings, and give you a detailed report. What’s more, it tells you exactly what the error means and how to actually fix it, so even if you are an SEO beginner, this can help you to get your website to the next level of optimization.
What does it cover
You can input any URL to get started. If you have a very large website, it may take a few hours to complete. After that, you see the detailed report.
Website Auditor Reports
When all web data from your site gets collected, let’s first go to the Reports section. First, you will see the Site Audit (Summary) report, which simply lists and groups all the errors, warnings, and other info.
You can go to the Site Audit (Details) report to see which pages need fixing. Besides that, you can also see Core Web Vitals report, technical SEO report, and your website domain strength.
If you have a Website Auditor enterprise subscription, then you can export these reports as PDFs, so you can send them to your client. Of course, some of the issues or warnings are not actually a problem. You can edit this report before exporting it.
Robots.txt and Sitemap Generator
For small websites with less than 100 pages, technical SEO may not be necessary. For larger websites, you certainly don’t want to ignore technical issues. Technial SEO is mostly crawl ability and indexing. Website Auditor can easily generate an XML sitemap to help index.
For crawl budget management, you want Google or other search engines to only index your valuable content. You can get Website Auditor to create a robots.txt file with a few clicks. If you already have a sitemap and robots.txt file, you can use it to review and edit the files right in the app.
Be aware that robots.txt cannot deindex pages. If you want to remove indexed low-quality pages, you should use noindex tag. You can read my previous post to see the difference between robots.txt and noindex.
Site Structure report
For more detailed information about your site, you can go to the Site Structure report. This report includes all the 404 pages, redirects, XML sitemap, rel canonical tags, broken images, empty descriptions, duplicate content, etc. The new version also includes hreflang tag. If you run multiple language websites, this is important.
You can even drill down into specific pages. Just click on the Pages tab from the left menu. Then you can see all the different metrics including open graph and structured data markup, which is important for SEO, links & technical factors, and social media.
If you connect Google Analytics with this tool, you can even get traffic metrics.
Intelligent on-page SEO Audit
This allows you to run a full analysis of a specific page. It will tell you all the on-page SEO stuff and technical stuff, which are very helpful when you want to increase the ranking of a specific page. What I like about this tool is that it gives you optimization advice and reverse-engineers your competitors’ strategies.
What’s more, it allows you to edit your page content while previewing the Google snippet. Once you complete optimizing, you can save the SEO-optimized HTML to your local storage for uploading.
TF-IDF analysis
The built-in TF-IDF SEO tool assists you in improving topical relevance and semantic search performance. Specifically, the program uncovers plenty of thematically relevant phrases and makes keyword recommendations based on top-ranking pages. Furthermore, the tool can determine how effectively your website is optimized for target keywords.
Domain Strength report
Domain strength is that statistical measure score that can be used to find out the reputation of a particular website. As you build more trust and links to your website, this score will increase. If you see your domain strength drop, then you should run a detailed full site audit to see what has gone wrong.
Customizable Scheduled Report
You can set up a scheduled report to deliver full SEO audit results to your or your client directly. The reports are optimized for all devices, so you can view them on the go. However, sharing reports is only available in the Enterprise version.
Site Auditor Pricing Plan
You can get the single Website Auditor Professional version lifetime license for $125/year or you can get the Enterprise license for $299/year. And of course, you can also use the free version with limited features.
Website Auditor is also included in the SEO PowerSuite, which is $299 for Professional and $699 for enterprise version. SEO PowerSuite covers Website Auditor, Rank Tracker, SEO SpyGlass, LinkAssistant, and BuzzBundle.
Website Auditor VS Screaming Frog
Both Website Auditor and Screaming Frog can crawl your site and find out technical issues on your site. The difference is that the Website Auditor presents the data in a more logical way and a more visual report, so you will know what to do even if you are an SEO beginner.
Screaming Frog is famous as a website crawler. I use Screaming Frog and Website Auditor to crawl the same website, and it turns out Screaming Frog crawls a little bit more results.
Both tools are great and have many custom settings to meet your requirements. For pros, Screaming Frog is more customizable and more powerful. For beginners and small to medium-sized websites, Website Auditor provides logical reports, so you can easily understand.
Conclusion
If you wonder if Website Auditor can do the job as advertised, the answer is yes. As you can see from this Website Auditor review, it can probably do more than you imagined.
Screaming Frog is also a great tool. If you work as an SEO agency, then Screaming Frog is a better choice than Website Auditor because of its crawlability and rich custom settings.
