According to Spotify, you need the Spotify Desktop app to change Spotify playlist cover image, but many people, myself included, want to do that on mobile phones. After some research, I finally find 4 ways to switch Spotify playlist cover picture to any photo, and 3 of them also work on Android or iOS.

Change Spotify Playlist Cover on iPhone

From the Spotify Developer Doc, you can easily find how to upload any image as Spotify playlist cover, so you can use the Shortcuts app for iOS to achieve it with Spotify API. On iOS 13 or later versions, the Shortcuts app is pre-installed on your iPhone or iPad.

Based on the Spotify API, I have made a shortcut to convert Apple Music playlist to Spotify. Recently, I have also updated the shortcut for changing Spotify playlist cover image. You can simply run this shortcut to upload a custom image as Spotify playlist cover.

Step 1. Get the Spotify Playlist Cover shortcut. If your iPhone is running iOS 15 or older versions, I recommend you use Safari to open the shortcut link. iOS 16 devices can use any web browser.

Step 2. When you run it for the first time, it will open a Safari web page. Log in to your Spotify account if you haven’t. Then copy the Authorization code.

Step 3. Select any picture from Photos or Files to set as playlist image. If the selected image is not square, this shortcut will crop it automatically.

Step 4. Then it will load all your Spotify playlists. Now, select the playlist to change its cover image.

This shortcut will create a text file with your Spotify Refresh Code in iCloud/Shortcuts/Spotify. That is to say, you have to enable iCloud for this shortcut to work smoothly. The next time, you can just select the image you prefer as the playlist cover without the authorization process.

On the next screen, you can tap on “Edit” to change the playlist name and description or “Choose Image” to select any image on your Android phone as the playlist cover image. You can also rotate the image if needed.

If you don’t want to get any app installed, you can also use an online web tool to edit Spotify playlist images. Since it is an online tool, you can use it on Chromebook, Windows PC, Mac, Linux PC, or any device with a web browser.

You just go to this web page. It will ask you to log in with your Spotify account and authorize like the previous 2 methods. After that, you can select your playlist to change the cover image as you like.

Bonus: Change Spotify Playlist Image with Spotify Web Player

  1. Is there any way to allow you to pick from more than the first 50 playlists you have for the iPhone one?
