Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services in the world, and it’s no surprise that millions of users use it every day on their iPhones. While the app itself is user-friendly, many Spotify shortcuts for iOS can make your experience even smoother and more efficient.

In this article, we’ll share some of the most useful Spotify shortcuts for iOS made by the Chrunos team. If you have never used any Shortcuts, you can read this to get started with Siri Shortcuts.

Spotify to MP3 Shortcut

If you’re a fan of Spotify and want to download songs from Spotify as MP3 files, you can use a shortcut to automate the process. Here’s how:

Step 1: Get the Spotify to MP3 shortcut by clicking the button below.

Step 2: Once you have the shortcut, open the Spotify app on your iPhone and select the track that you want to convert to MP3.

Step 3: Tap the “Share” button and select “Shortcuts” from the list of options.

Step 4: Select the “Spotify to MP3” shortcut and follow the on-screen instructions to convert Spotify tracks to MP3.

When the download is complete, it will ask you where to save the music file. You can pick a location to save it and then you can open the Files app to check the downloaded music.

The music files are sourced from YouTube. You can also check out our premium shortcuts to download songs in higher quality. In case this shortcut fail to work, you can check our multi-source downloader shortcut to download music from Spotify.

Spotify Playlist Downloader

One of the most useful Spotify shortcuts is the Playlist Downloader. This shortcut allows you to download any playlist on Spotify as MP3 files. Then you can listen to your favorite songs offline or on any device that doesn’t have the Spotify app installed. Here’s how to use it:

Step 1: Download the “Spotify Playlist Downloader” shortcut. We only shared this shortcut on this page.

Step 2: Open the Spotify app on your iPhone and go to the playlist you want to download.

Step 3: Open your Spotify playlist in Safari or other web browsers. Then copy the playlist URL from the address bar.

Step 4: Open the “Spotify Playlist Downloader” shortcut and tap to run it. Of course, you can also run it from the share sheet.

Step 5: Input the number of songs in the playlist. I will automate this step in the next version, so you don’t have to do it manually.

Since Spotify uses short links, this short no longer works from the Spotify mobile app share sheet. By default, it will save the downloaded music files to iCloud/Shortcuts/Music folder. You can open the Files app to check them.

Spotify Downloader HQ

The above Spotify Downloader shortcuts only download Spotify tracks in 128 kbps. If you want to download high quality music from Spotify (320kbps), you can get our Spotify Downloader HQ, which is among our premium shortcuts.

With our Premium plan, you will get advanced shortcuts like Tidal Downloader, FLAC Downloader, etc. Besides, you can request custom shortcuts and full support from the Chrunos team.

Spotify Podcast to MP3

If you need to download Spotify podcasts for other devices, try this Spotify Podcast to MP3 shortcut. When you find an episode on Spotify that you want to download, you can tap Share and select this shortcut. It will load all available episodes on the show and you can choose to download all of them at once.

Spotify Podcast to MP3

If the podcast is not available in the United States, you should edit the shortcut a bit. I have added comments in the shortcut to guide you. You just change the “market=US” parameter accordingly. If you want to learn more ways to download Spotify podcasts, you can check this post.

Play Certain Tracks on Spotify

You can ask Siri to play Spotify music on iPhone or iPad since iOS 13. This shortcut is mainly for older iPhone models. You can copy any URL to a Spotify track and paste it to this shortcut, then run it to start playing.

Play Spotify Album, Artist, or Playlist on Any Device

I recently updated this Play Spotify Shortcut. It allows you to play any Spotify album, artist, or playlist. If not specified, it will play your recently played tracks. You can also specify which device to play. Let me show you how to set it up.

Spotify has changed their API, you may refer to the video below to set it up. This should solve the error “No available device found”.

Step 1. Get this Play Spotify Shortcut.

Step 2. Open the shortcut in Edit mode. Scroll down to fill in a Spotify URL according to the comments in the shortcut. You can paste URL to a Spotify album, artist, or playlist. You can leave it blank if you want it to resume your playback.

Step 3. Go to Developer.Spotify.com to get your own client ID and client secret. Then paste the client ID and secret into the shortcut. This is needed recently when Spotify made my API in Development mode. If my application for Extended Quota Mode get approved, you will not need to do this step.

Step 4. Enter the Device ID of the device to play Spotify music. If you leave it blank, this shortcut will detect all available devices. If there is more than one device, it will ask you to choose one.

Apple Music Playlist to Spotify Shortcut

If you’re switching from Apple Music to Spotify, you might want to transfer your playlists to the new platform. Here’s how to do it with a shortcut:

Step 1: Get the “Apple Music Playlist to Spotify” shortcut.

Step 2: Open the Apple Music app on your iPhone and select the playlist that you want to transfer.

Step 3: Tap the “Share” button and select “Shortcuts” from the list of options.

Step 4: Select the “Apple Music Playlist to Spotify” shortcut and follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the playlist to your Spotify account.

Note that this shortcut requires you to have a valid Apple Music subscription. When you run it for the first time, you need to log in to Spotify and complete the authentication process.  Additionally, it may take some time to transfer Apple Music playlist to Spotify, especially if you have a large playlist.

Spotify Playlist to Apple Music Shortcut

If you’re switching from Spotify to Apple Music and want to transfer your playlists, you can use a shortcut to quickly do so. Here’s how:

Step 1: Download the “Spotify Playlist to Apple Music” shortcut.

Step 2: Open the Spotify app on your iPhone and go to the playlist you want to transfer to Apple Music.

Step 3: Tap the “Share” button and select “Copy Link” from the list of options.

Step 4: Open the “Spotify Playlist to Apple Music” shortcut and follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the playlist to Apple Music.

Note that this shortcut requires you to have Apple Music apps installed on your iPhone and a valid Apple Music subscription.

Change Spotify Playlist Cover Shortcut

If you’re a Spotify user, you know that changing the cover image of your playlist on iPhone can be a bit of a hassle. Fortunately, there’s a shortcut that can make the process much easier. Here’s how:

Step 1: Download the “Change Spotify Playlist Cover” shortcut.

Step 2: Run the shortcut and select an image that you want to use as the playlist cover.

Step 3: It will display all the Spotify playlists that you have and then tab to select one that you want to change its cover.

Step 4: You will get notified when it’s done and then you can open the Spotify app to see the changes.

This shortcut uses the same authentication process as the Apple Music Playlist to Spotify shortcut. If you have already used that one, then you don’t need to do it again.

Note that this shortcut requires you to have a new image ready to use. Additionally, the image must be less than 256 KB in size.

Shazam to Spotify Playlist Shortcut

If you often use the Shazam app to discover new songs and want to add them to a Spotify playlist, you can use a shortcut to quickly do so. Here’s how:

Step 1: Download the “Shazam to Spotify Playlist” shortcut by clicking the button above.

Step 2: Open the Shortcuts app and replace the Client ID and Client Secret with your own as in the video below. While creating the client ID, be sure to set the redirect URI as the same as the one in the shortcut.

Step 3: Run the shortcut while the music is playing.

Step 4: When the shortcut has identified the track, it will list your playlists. Then you select one to add the song.

This shortcut also requires the Spotify Authentication process as mentioned. If you get all these shortcuts, you need to only do it once.  The Shazam action is within the shortcut, so you don’t need to install Shazam or Spotify app.

Play Spotify on HomePod

As mentioned, you can ask Siri to play Spotify music on iOS device. After you do that a couple of times, such actions will be available in Shortcuts. For Instance, I ask Siri to play my Spotify playlist called We Are Young, and then the Play We Are Young action is available.

I added this action and then added a Hand off playback action to hand off playback from my iPad to HomePod. This way, I can ask Siri to play Spotify on HomePod.

Play Spotify on HomePod

Spotify to YouTube Playlist

Someone ask me how to transfer Spotify to YouTube playlist without logging in, so I created this shortcut. It uses Spotify API to get each track info and YouTube API to search videos on YouTube. Once done, it will create an unlisted YouTube watch list.

I included my YouTube API in the shortcut, but I may run out of quota, so I highly recommend you use your own API key. You can refer to this post to create a free YouTube API.

Conclusion

These Spotify shortcuts can make your experience with Spotify much more efficient and enjoyable. With them, you don’t need to install additional apps or purchase paid services. So give them a try and see how they can improve your music streaming experience!

We have a few other Spotify Shortcuts in the making. Soon, the Chrunos team will update this article with a few more Spotify Shortcuts for iPhone or iPad. You can also share your expectations and let us know which shortcut you like the most.

  1. Hey Cody
Thank you very much, the play shortcut works almost perfectly for me! Unfortunately spotify only starts playing after opening the app. As soon as the app is opened after the shortcut has been activated, it starts playing. Any idea how to get it to play without having to pop the app in front?
    Thanks

  2. Hey Cody
Successfully installed and setup the shortcut with API authorisation.

When I run the shortcut its starts to recognize the song but then I am hit with the following error right after the song is successfully recognized and the Apple Music notification appears in the Dynamic Island:

Could not evaluate the key path.

In”, no value was found for dictionary key ‘tracks’.

  3. Emmy,
If you can choose the device, it means you have get the api correctly. It is probably because you don’t have Spotify premium. I have made another one that does not require Spotify premium, but it can only play on the current device.

  4. Ok I watched your video and updated my redirect url and got further. Now when I run the shortcut it allowed me to select my device from a menu but then nothing is happening afterwards. I ran Spotify before as well and it’s still not doing anything. I feel like I’m super close and missing one step.

  5. OK I was really stupid – I had no Music folder within my shortcuts directory – I created one manually and now files are being saved. But from Spotify they are being created as m4a files (I am doing this on a Mac). I want mp3 files. How to fix?

  6. John,
I just tried and it worked as it should.
By default, it saves downloaded music in iCloud/Shortcuts/Music/.
You may find the Save Encoded Media action and change the location to save the music.

  7. I can’t get the Spotify Playlist downloader to work – or, rather, it runs but no mp3 files are saved anywhere. To recap, I am copying the link to the playlist to a new Safari tab, running the shortcut, telling it how many songs there are, then letting it finish. What am I doing wrong?

  8. “Last played object” does not work. If I don’t give a specific url to a song/artist/playlist, the shortcut doesn’t play any music.

  9. Chester,
Open the shortcut and scroll down to the comment saying Get device ID. Add a Quick Look action below the Get content of URL action.
Run it to see the quick look result. If it is {“devices”:[]}, you only need to play Spotify music on any of your device and then run this shortcut, it should work.
If it says errors, send me the error on Telegram https://t.me/+fd82OOpm6zNjNDhl

  10. i have loaded this shortcut, followed the steps in the video and still get error no available devices available. i do have premium, created developers account, set the client id and secret. any help is greatly appreciated. installed on iphone 15 pro max

  12. Hello! Thank you for this wonderful work. Is your API up and running yet? Having trouble as it keeps returning an error for no devices available. Is this step necessary? May I delete it or is a device I’d required to launch the URI?

  13. Ryan Brown,
If you have replace the Spotify Client ID and Client Secret in the shortcut, you can run the shortcut. It will list all your available devices.

  14. Hi Cody, I have watched your embedded video of Play Spotify Album, Artist, or Playlist on Any Device but my device ID text field is blank. ‘Enter your preferred device ID below’. What should be input? I have also opened Spotify and played a song.

  15. Hello, I am trying to get the Shazam to Spotify playlist shortcut to work.
But I am getting an error right after shazam recognises the track. When the shortcut tries to get dictionary values from the API url it returns the error: Get Dictionary Value failed because Shortcuts couldn’t convert from File to Dictionary.

  16. First, thank you for your work. Amazing! Unfortunately I have troubles running your play spotify shortcut. It didn‘t work first, then it did and now it stopped again. Seems random to me. Thst‘s the error I get.

    {“error”:{“status”:400,”message”:”Invalid context uri”}}

Perhaps it‘s an ios 17 problem?

  17. Any way to continue play last played Spotify via airplay, basically handover from iPad to Sonos via airplay? I usually have to switch manually from playing in iPad to AirPlay, select device, then select AirPlay and Sonos speakers.

    Cheers

  18. Anyone having issues after IOS 17 update on the Spotify shortcut ???? The one that plays any playlist on any device ??

Mine just won’t play anything anymore

Before the update it was running smoothly

  19. jc,
You should allow this shortcut to access your iCloud. This shortcut will ask you login to Spotify and generate a refresh token and save it to your iCloud.
The next time, you run it and it will read the refresh token from your iCloud, so you don’t need to login to Spotify again.

  20. hi, ty for your work
tried the Play Spotify Album, Artist, or Playlist
it says : “error file not found”, any ideas ?

  21. @Jaafar Amjad,

  23. Hey – I always get the following error:
    Conversion Error
Get Dictionary Value failed because Shortcuts couldn’t convert from File to Dictionary.

It‘s the dictionary step after the api call.

    Looking forward for help 🙂

    Best,
    Lukas

  24. Neil,
I forgot to remove a few quick look actions which used only for troubleshooting. You can simply remove these actions or get the new version.

  25. Thanks greatly , got there in the end however the experience isn’t as clean as before. Had many pop ups with jibbish text and had to choose a title from a list each time. I can live with it.

    Thanks.

  26. Its showing “the index u specified was outside the possible range (you asked for item 2, but the list has only one)

    Please help

  27. The “Spotify to MP3” gives an error. The “Spotify Playlist Downloader” runs fine but I cannot find the files anywhere.

  28. Here in the UK I used to use Spotify to mp3 v1.8 for single Spotify tracks and worked most of the time, that no longer works and tried v2.
Getting error “Numerical argument out of domain
The index you specified was outside the possible range you asked for item 2, but the list only has 1).”

  29. Spotify play list shortcut is nice but a small problem for every song it is asking location to save but can you do it like giving location only once and to download all the songs in that location . I tried to give the file location but that was not working it is telling that file is not found . Please reply

  30. Andyb,
Why not? When asked how many songs are in the playlist, input the number, and it should work. If it does not, please share the playlist link.

  31. Okay got it going. Any chance it could do playlists that are 200-250 songs?
