Google Keyword Planner stop showing the specific keyword search volume
Google Keyword Planner has been the best free tool to find the best keyword to succeed in content marketing. However, back in June last year, AdWords has stopped displaying precise Google search volume data in Keyword Planner for low spending AdWords accounts.
If you do not spend much money on AdWords, you will see the notice that “this page shows ranges for search volumes. for a more detailed view, set up and run a campaign”.
The Google Keyword Planner ranges it provides are:
- 0
- 1–100
- 100–1K
- 1K–10K
- 10K–100K
- 100K–1M
- 1M+
It is very broad and seems useless. Well, is there a way to see the accurate Keyword Planner search volume?
How do we get our data back?
I read a post about getting old keyword monthly search volume data on SearchEngineland, but I think it is too cumbersome. The method I am going to show you is much simpler.
You just need to install an extension on your web browser only available for Chrome. After the installation and setup, you will see the old precise data on monthly searches on Google is back again in Keyword Planner.
Besides showing search volume in keyword planner, it also shows volume data in Google search results and other places where showing keywords.
You can configure where to show keywords volume data in the extension settings. This free extension supports many websites including Google Search, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Trends, Google Keyword Planner, YouTube, Bing Search, Amazon, eBay, Ubersuggest, Answer The Public, Soovle, Keyword Shitter, Majestic, Moz.
With it, I can see search volume data everywhere I need. I love this extension so much, so I share it with you. By the way, it is completely free. Since it is only an extension, it only shows you the exact search volume, but when you download the sheet, there are only volume ranges.
Alternatives to google keyword planner
With this restriction in Google Keyword Planner, some of you may probably think about giving up on it and finding a Google Keyword Planner alternative. Here, I made a list of the free similar tools that can help you find proper keywords in any niche.
- Ubersuggest. You probably think about Google suggestion and relative searches is a good way to find relative keywords. Ubersugest it a tool that just put all the Google suggested and related searches together. If you have the extension installed, you will have all the search volume data.
- Keyword tool. Similar as Ubersuggest with both free and paid version.
- LSI Graph. Generate LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keyword.
- Moz keyword explorer. The free version only allows you to do three searches a day.
- Google trends. This tool I love very much. As its name suggested, it shows the trending of any keyword you type in. keyword planner only shows the average monthly search data, while Google Trends give you more specific data. When you cannot decide which of the keywords to write about, just try Google Trends.
Because I do not have a budget for keywords research, I only use free tools. What do you think is the best tool for keywords research? What do you think about this method to get Google Keyword Planner search volume? I am just getting started learning content marketing.
