If you want Spotify music to start your day, you have come to the right place. In this post, I will show you 3 ways to use Spotify as an alarm on iPhone or Android. You don’t even need to download a third-party app for iPhone or iPad, thanks to iOS Shortcuts Automation

Create an Automation Task in the Shortcuts App

Starting in iOS 13, you can ask Siri to play Spotify music on iPhone or iPad directly. Before that, I used some custom shortcuts to start Spotify Music and add it to Siri. In case you don’t know about shortcuts, the Shortcuts app allows you to create all kinds of shortcuts for iOS automation.

Auto Play Spotify Track on iPhone

There is a custom shortcut to shuffle Like tracks and I can set up automation to run it at a particular time or on an event trigger. If you want to explore more about shortcuts, you can check our Spotify shortcuts for iOS. Let me show you how to set Spotify as alarm on iPhone with the Shortcuts app.

Step 1. Open this link in Safari to get this shortcut. You may also need to go to Settings to enable Allow Untrusted Shortcuts before you can import any shortcuts outside of the Gallery.

Step 2. After that, click on the Automation tab at the button and create a new personal automation.

Step 3. Select the Time of Day trigger or another event trigger. Set it to your preferred time.

Step 4. Click Add Action to add the action Run Shortcut.

Step 5. Tap on Shortcut to select the Play Certain Spotify Track shortcut.

Step 6. Tap Next and toggle off the option “Ask Before Running”. Then Tab Done to save the automation.

Instead of this shortcut, you can ask Siri to play something on Spotify. Then open the Shortcuts app to set up an automation, what you played comes up under suggested actions. This way, you don’t even need to set up the shortcut and it will start playing with your iPhone or iPad locked.

Play Spotify Album or Playlist Automatically

I have also a shortcut to play a Spotify album or playlist on any available device. Once you get the shortcut, you can open the shortcut to enter the URL to a Spotify album or playlist. When you run it for the first time, you also need to copy the Authorization code to set up.

If you don’t input Spotify Device ID, it will list all available devices and you can select on to play Spotify music. Recently, Spotify changed something, you can refer to this video below to set it up.

Fixed – Not Working When iPhone Is Locked

If you ask Siri to play something in Spotify (track, album, or playlist) right before setting up the automation, what you played comes up under suggested actions and you can add it to your automation. This automation will work as it should when your iPhone is locked.

If you don’t see the action, go to Settings > Siri & Search, and enable the option “Allow Siri When Locked”. Under ASK SIRI, scroll down to find Shortcuts and enable the option “Learn from this App”. Now, you ask Siri to play your track or playlist on Spotify a few times, and you should see such action available in Shortcuts.

For example, I asked Siri to play a playlist called We Are Young on Spotify. Then the Play We Are Young action is available when I create a shortcut or automation.

Use Spotify As An Alarm On Android

For Android users, I recommend the Google Clock app which allows you to select music from Spotify YouTube Music as the alarm sound. With some setup setps, you may wake up to your favorite song, album, or playlist.

Within the app, you can set an alarm, timer, or stopwatch for a global clock. With this app, you may use it as an alarm, but you can also schedule a series of daily alarms. To set Spotify music as the alarm sound, you should have the Google Clock and Spotify installed and updated on your phone before you get started.

  1. It doesn’t work when the phone is locked. How to get it work when the phone is locked? It doesn’t make sense to unlock manually before the alarm goes off
